LEIGH JONES

Leigh Ashley Jones holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies, with a minor in Hebrew, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She received her Juris Doctor from the University at Buffalo Law School. She grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina, and has since lived in Cape Town, South Africa, Buffalo, New York, and Atlanta, Georgia.

Leigh is licensed to practice law in the State of Maryland and the District of Columbia. She is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of Maryland and the Supreme Court of the United States. Prior to joining McDonough Law in 2022, Leigh practiced as an immigration attorney for three years in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Since receiving her Maryland law license in 2020, Leigh has built her practice around family law, estate planning and administration, and collections litigation. Leigh is a Court-Appointed Best Interest Attorney (BIA) and Child Privilege Attorney (CPA) and is regularly appointed by Maryland courts to represent children in high-conflict custody matters.

Leigh is an active member of the D.C. Bar Association, the Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA), the Bar Association of Montgomery County (BAMC), and the Montgomery County Women's Bar Association (WBA). She is also a member of the Hague Attorneys Network and serves on the Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service (MVLS) Judicare Panel, where she provides representation in family law matters, particularly Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) cases. She has been selected as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers Magazine for 2024–2026, an honor awarded to outstanding attorneys under 40 who have demonstrated exceptional skill and leadership in their practice.

Leigh was elected to and graduated from the Bar Association of Montgomery County Leadership Academy in 2024. She served as Secretary of the Montgomery County Chapter of the Women's Bar Association during the 2025–2026 bar year and will serve as President-Elect for the 2026–2027 bar year. She was elected to the Board of Governors of the Bar Association of Montgomery County for the 2026–2027 term and served as Co-Chair of the Family Law Section of the Bar Association of Montgomery County during the 2025–2026 bar year. She also serves on the Maryland State Bar Association's Laws Committee, where she reviews and analyzes proposed legislation affecting Maryland attorneys and helps develop the Association's positions on pending legislation before the Maryland General Assembly. In 2026, she was recognized as a Bar Leader by the Bar Association of Montgomery County for her leadership and service to the legal profession.

Leigh is passionate about service and has volunteered for the Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland in its estate planning clinic, the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) in Raleigh, North Carolina, and as a mentor and tutor to refugee students at West Hertel Academy in Buffalo, New York. She also served as the Community Service Director for the Black Law Students Association at the University at Buffalo Law School.

In her free time, Leigh enjoys reading, spending time with her family, and traveling.
